Some amazing photos have emerged, it's hard to imagine this photo was taken in Queens, it reminds me more of India. photo Spencer Platt NYC photographer, Helen Levitt (1913-2009). A self-taught, school drop-out... my kind of woman!
Levitt grew up in Brooklyn and focussed most of her attention on local street photography. During the late 1800s and early 1900s my family were merchants in London's Billingsgate market. I thought it was about time I got down there to see what the modern day Billingsgate was all about. Alarm set for 5am and wellies at the ready, I spent a morning photographing the traders and porters as they went about their business.
